The competition was a huge success and we had many, many entries. A big thank you to everyone who submitted their great ideas.

The winner of the competition was Rani who came up with the name STORMTROOPER. Congratulations Rani we love the name.

Plan B’s CCTV Investigation

Plan B Plumbing Solutions was recently asked to undertake CCTV investigations at the historical landmark Abbotsford Convent Laundries.

Built in the 1880s by the original owners of the Convent, the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, the Laundries were staffed by women who lived onsite at the Magdalen Asylum. The Laundries were a source of income for the Sisters, and operated commercially up until 1975. The Laundries have remained largely unused since then, and are currently in a dilapidated state.

Once restored, these spaces will provide a multi-use arts space for Melbourne, while also generating new income for the Convent, helping to grow the Convent’s public programming, and to help secure its future long-term.

This project was very interesting from a plumbing perspective and we look forward to watching the progress of this restoration as it takes shape.

Plumbers Oakleigh

We wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to our team for being so awesome and to wish Dylan happy travels as he leaves in June for a 6 weeks holiday in Europe.

The team hit Etihad Stadium to see Collingwood V Bulldogs. Bulldogs lost and Anthony spent the weekend crying into his pillow, but apart from that it was a great night of man bonding.

Happy employees make for a happy workplace. In a happy workplace magic happens.

Go Doggies.

CAN MY WATER METER HELP ME TELL IF I HAVE A LEAK ?

The Age-Old Question at Plan B

At Plan B Plumbing Solutions we get asked a very common question on a regular basis. What is the question?

Can I use my water meter to tell if I have a leak ?

Most houses have their own meter. The water meter is usually located towards the front of the property, near the left or right boundary. In townhouse developments, flats or strata-titled properties, there may be only one meter servicing all of the dwellings or one for each residence.

It is useful to know the location of your meter because this is where the isolation valve is situated at the metre. This valve controls the flow of water.

In an emergency, such as a burst water pipe, you can use the valve to turn off the water supply to prevent water waste and damage.

Your water meter is a useful tool in helping manage your water consumption.

If you are not using water in your house, your meter should not be ticking over. This is where you can use your water meter to check for leaks.

Record the reading of your meter and ensure no water is used on the property for a few hours or overnight and then check the meter again.

Take into consideration if your hot water system is filling, or if dishwashers, washing machines, toilets or garden irrigation are in use, or on timers. We recommend for water to the toilets be turned of from the mini stop valve.

Any movement of the dials {including both red and black numbers} on your water meter after this time indicates there may be a leak on the property.

If this is the case you should contact Plan B Plumbing Solutions to arrange a Leak Detection inspection be carried out to your home, office or commercial building.

Roof Damage

Strong winds typically damage roofs in one of two ways, either by the sheer force of the wind itself or through the debris it picks up, carries, and throws against your roof.

If your roof does have damage after a storm, it’s important to get it fixed as soon as possible!

The underlayment of the roof or the inside of your home can sustain water damage over time and water damage left unchecked can lead to even more costly repair bills in the future.

How To Spot Wind Damage

Roof Leaks: These are perhaps the easiest to find, simply because there is water coming into your
house where it shouldn’t.

Missing Tiles: Strong winds, heavy rain, or falling tree branches can pull off your roof’s tiles.

The Gutter: High winds and heavy rains can wash debris into the gutter.

Chimney Flashing: Look to see if the chimney flashing is missing or split. This is a stress point for high winds, which can easily be lifted by a strong wind hitting at just the right angle

Wind-related damages can usually be covered by insurance, but make sure you check the details of your specific policy to confirm and if you do require roof repairs. Contact us at Plan B Roof Plumber Melbourne on 1300 075 262.

TRADIES NATIONAL HEALTH MONTH WITH KX PILATES

National Health Month

Did you know that tradies rely on their musculoskeletal health to do their jobs; and ignoring aches, pains and body stress could result in disability and debilitation in the future.

Every day 10 Australian tradies are injured at work. That’s 3,560 tradies a year on workers compensation.

Nearly a quarter of all roofers, labourers and plumbers experience back pain, muscle stress and strain from lifting equipment or slips, trips, and falls when handling materials.

Plan B Plumbing Solutions believe prevention is better than the cure and we actively encourage our team to make sure they are taking care of themselves and keeping active.

Pilates improves flexibility, increases muscle strength and tones, particularly abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and buttocks (the ‘core muscles’ of your body) balanced muscular strength on both sides of your body.

Tradies fix most things, but not always themselves !!

Thanks to KX Pilates Oakleigh for hosting the Plan B Team  – we will be back soon.
