PLAN B PLUMBING WELCOMES TAYA TO THE TEAM
Meet Taya, Plan B Plumbing Solutions’ newest First Year Apprentice. Almost as rare as a hens teeth, Taya is one of the very few female plumbers in Australia. Numbers show how few women are represented in the plumbing industry so we are pretty excited to have Taya as a part of our team.
Due to long held gender stereotypes and misconceptions that trades are hard and dirty work, women are underrepresented in plumbing and other trades in Australia. Fact is, with the right techniques and the right tools, plumbing can be done by either gender.
Not only is Taya not afraid to get her hands dirty, she says being outside and getting dirty is one of her favourite things at work and in her free time! She hopes to inspire a new generation of female plumbers and other lady tradies to get out there and give it a go.
While she has only just started working as a first year plumbing apprentice, Taya has already impressed the boss with her can do attitude and has a promising future with Plan B Plumbing Solutions ahead of her.
Taya is quick to learn and is thriving on the variety of a career in plumbing. She enjoys learning new things and taking on new challenges every day, both mental and physical.
Taya also likes problem solving and loves helping our customers with their plumbing problems.“It’s cool to be helping people by fixing things that they can’t fix themselves,” she says.
Between smashing stereotypes and fixing leaky pipes Taya completed a fun Q & A that all new Plan B Plumbing Solutions employees complete.
Who is your hero and why?
My hero would hands down have to be my mum for always being my biggest fan and personal cheer squad. Cheers mum!
If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?
If I could live anywhere I would pick Jamaica because I feel like they would have a lot of funky hats and I love funky hats.
What music are you listening to at the moment?
I’m currently listening to Slowly Slowly, always got their stuff on repeat.
What was the title of the last book you read?
Muffin cookbook, no idea what it was called.
What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear would have to be losing my mates.
What motivates you to work hard?
My biggest motivation for me to work hard at the moment would be so one day I can be a better plumber than my boyfriend.
While some customers might be surprised to see Taya, a female plumber, when the Plan B Plumbing Solutions team attends their job, we hope that she will be the first of many females on our team and many more in the plumbing industry.
She joins a hard-working team providing quality plumbing work, quick turnaround, and exceptional customer service in the Melbourne area.
